Nobody Loses A Job After All

Jun 24 2006 Published by Turk under Miscellany

MiscellanyThe St. Petersburg Times posted to their new blog as a way of explaining the “Rove/Satan” article. It seems they had meant to post the article as satire, but their new CMS gave them trouble and it ended up posting under real news.

So nobody’s losing a job over this, it appears.

Rudy Bloggers Supporting McCain?

Jun 24 2006 Published by Turk under Bloggers, Candidates, John McCain, Politics, Republicans

RepublicansPoliticsMore from the Hotline. It appears that an unofficial blog for Rudy Giuliani called out the Hotline for its allegedly pro-McCain tilt. The blog, however, featured Google ads for McCain. This one is pretty funny. You should check it out.

The Humor That Cost a Job

Jun 23 2006 Published by Turk under Miscellany, Politics

MiscellanyPoliticsThe Hotline blog this morning picked up an article that should never have run on the St. Petersburg Times.

At a joint press conference today in Washington, White House Advisor Karl Rove said that he would be plotting the Republican Party’s fall election strategy with his longtime comrade-in-arms, Satan.

Having been on the wrong end of one of these “trying way too hard to be clever and shooting yourself in the ass” moments, I feel for the poor guy that’s likely to lose his job over this. Mine didn’t result in the loss of a job, but I got bent over pretty good for my little attempt at humor. This guy, however, won’t walk right for a while.

It’s sad that people are so uptight that the accidental publication of an otherwise amusing joke gets them all worked up. The GOP will scream for this guys head, and likely get it. In the end, the only thing that will have come from this is an uptick in the unemployment rate to the tune of +1.

Washington, DC

CrimepoliticsIf there is one thing I find amazing about this town, it is the incredibly superficial relationships. One minute you’re a “chief of staff” and close friend, and a few weeks later you’re a “convicted felon” and completely unreliable as a human.

WaPo looks at the increasingly uncomfortable world of Bob Ney and his ‘forgetfulness’ and the reaction from his press team.

[Spokesman Brian] Walsh said the committee report relied on e-mails written by “convicted felons,” [former Ney Chief of Staff Neil] Volz among them.

Volz was Ney’s chief of staff for years, and now that he has decided to cooperate in exchange for a lighter sentence, suddenly he’s nothing more than a ‘convicted felon.’ The DC Two-Step continues with Ney looking for a new partner.

We Need A Muzzle Law For Politicians

Jun 22 2006 Published by Turk under Congress, Politics

CongressRepublicansPoliticsI cannot believe that anyone is really this dumb. A Pennsylvania congressman (and proud member of the GOP) announced that kids born to wealthy parents can play Grand Theft Auto with no ill effects, but poor inner city kids whose “dad’s in jail or [whose] brother’s already down on the corner dealing drugs” will most certainly be hurt by it.

Jon Stewart nails this one. Congress is full of insane jackasses.
